On July 30, China Shenhua Energy Company Limited and Baoshen Railway Group, two subsidiaries of CHN Energy, successfully conducted a 15,000-ton heavy haul train platoon trial on the northern Baoshen Line. Formed by three 5,000-ton heavy-load trains, this trial marks another major breakthrough following April’s successful two-train platoon test. It signifies China as the first country globally to master heavy haul train platoon control technology.
As the flagship listed company of CHN Energy, China Shenhua Energy Company Limited plays a major role in operating China’s west-to-east coal transport corridor, with railway line stretching 2,408 kilometers. Collaborating with multiple research institutions over three years, the company resolved the technical challenges of collaborative control for closely spaced heavy haul train platoons. Leveraging train-to-ground and train-to-train communication, the technology employs a two-dimensional control mode integrating relative speed and absolute distance, enabling dynamic close-formation operations. Compared to existing systems, this innovation increases station throat capacity by over 30% and boosts line tracking capacity by 100%.
China Shenhua Energy Company Limited will continue optimizing the system, targeting future 35,000-ton heavy haul platoon operations to offer new solutions for global heavy haul transportation technology development.
