On July 24th, the concrete lining construction was completed for the spillway tunnel vortex shaft at the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station, a subsidiary of CHN Energy’s Daduhe Company. Standing 200.65 meters tall with a maximum excavated diameter of 21.3 meters, this vortex shaft is the world's largest variable-section structure of its kind currently under construction.
Located in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station has a total installed capacity of 2 GW. Its main structure is a rockfill dam with a clay core, reaching a maximum height of 315 meters – making it the tallest dam currently under construction worldwide. The station's flood discharge system comprises a tunnel-type spillway and a deep-outlet spillway tunnel, with the shaft spillway utilizing vortex energy dissipation technology.
During construction, the project team overcame significant technical challenges, including the extreme height and complex variable cross-section design. Through innovative construction methods and rigorous monitoring, they ensured both quality and progress. This completion of the lining work paves the way for achieving the year-end target: commissioning the station's first generating units.
